Delighted to be asked by the Mammoth Lakes Library to talk about my play FAIR USE, which addresses the “Was it plagiarism?” controversy surrounding Wallace Stegner’s use of the life, memoirs, and letters of 19th century writer/illustrator Mary Hallock Foote in creating his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel ANGLE OF REPOSE. A number of the audience will have just finished reading Stegner’s novel, and there will no doubt be spirited discussion. I’ll also talk a bit and read from FLUNK. START. And, as if further enticement is needed, friend and organizer Debbie Boucher will read from her new novel, THE AUNTIES. Book sales support the library. For more information: 760/934-4777.
